Formosan Black Bear Under the Moonlight

This is the second piece in luthier Sing Wong's Taiwan Wildlife Series, featuring the Taiwan black bear as the theme. Unlike the typical cute depictions of black bears, the main intention here is to portray the mysterious side of the Taiwan black bear, giving a sense of elusive presence under the moonlight. According to information, the Taiwan black bear is a solitary animal, primarily found in the high mountain forests of the Central Mountain Range. Currently, there are only around 200 to 600 individuals left in Taiwan, classifying them as critically endangered wildlife.

To capture the essence of the Taiwan black bear, a new guitar body design was specially made. The body has a fuller and more rounded shape, complemented by circular cutouts. The back and side features a deeper-toned wood, Wenge, and the top panel is made from Moon Spruce (also known as Moon Bear due to its V-shaped markings resembling a crescent moon). The guitar as a whole aims to evoke a sense of composed and understated elegance.
